This Filipino Beef Tapa is 100% vegan and very easy to make. For this version I used Soy curls, which replicate the taste and texture of meat quite nicely. High in protein and tasty, try this recipe for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
Rehydrate soy curls in hot water and cover lid for 10 minutes. Once soy curls are softened, drain the liquids and press the soy curls to remove excess water using the strainer.
On the separate bowl mix all the ingredients as listed above to marinate the soy curls. Make sure to stir them properly until spices are well distributed. Leave it for 30 minutes and more in refrigerator . In my case, I marinated them for 30 minutes only and still good.
In a medium heat skillet,sauté onion and wait till translucent. Remove soy curls out of the fridge. Toss the marinated soy curls into the skillet and stir until brown. Add tamari soy sauce, vinegar( filipino datu-puti), vegetable broth and sugar. Cook for 10 minutes.
Garlic Fried Rice
Once the Beef Tapa(soy curls) is cooked removed them on the skillet. On the same pan, sauté garlic and wait till brown. Add cooked rice (white or brown rice is fine) and toss a little bit of salt and pepper and mix. Fry until rice slightly turns brown.Set aside.
Vinegar Dip
I used Datu Puti Pinakurat(you can find them in Asian store or International section).Add onions, tomatoes and thai peppers.
