Easy Steamed Pompano Recipe

This quick and easy Steamed Pompano recipe is made with soy sauce, ginger, and spring onion. This recipe is wonderfully simple and highlights the natural flavor of the fish. Ready in less than 20 minutes and serve over hot steamed rice for a complete meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 medium size whole Pompano  cleaned and gutted
  • 1 bunch green onion  2-3" in length, save some thinly julienned for toppings. White parts place inside the cavity
  • 1 piece ginger peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil high smoke-point
  • 3 tablespoon soy sauce light soy sauce (low soduim)
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • salt and black pepper to season fish

Instructions
 

  • Ensure the fish is properly cleaned and scaled before cooking. Use a pair of scissors to cut at the belly, gut and remove all the innards and gills.
  • Soak in a bowl of water for a few minutes to make sure all blood is removed.
  • Season the cleaned pompano fish generously with salt and pepper, stuff the cavity with sliced ginger and white parts of green onions.
  • Place the fish in a lightly grease heatproof steaming plate or dish to prevent the fish from sticking. Top with more ginger slices and green onions.
  • Carefully place the steaming plate with the fish into the steamer basket filled with water. Cover the steamer with a lid. Steam for about 10-15 minutes, depending on the size of the fish. Remove plate from the steamer.
  • Garnish additional julienned scallions, ginger and cilantro on the fish.
  • In a saucepan, heat oil until smoking hot. Pour over over top of the scallions/green onions on the pompano fish.
  • In a small bowl combined soy sauce and sugar. Pour the mixture over the fish.
  • Serve with hot steamed rice and enjoy.
