- 8 pieces saba bananas cut into halves
- 7 pieces langka (jackfruit) cut into strips
- 16 pieces spring roll wrappers
- ½ cup brown sugar
- neutral oil for frying
Prepare the filling
Peel the ripe saba bananas and cut them into halves or quarters lengthwise, depending on their size. You can adjust the size to your preference.
If using fresh langka, peel the jackfruit and cut it into thin strips. If using canned langka, drain the syrup and pat the strips dry with paper towels.
Assemble the turon
Set wrapper in diamond shape in a plate or clean surface, then place slice of banana and few strips of jackfruit.
Fold the bottom of wrapper over banana-jackfruit and then fold the sides inward to secure the filling.
Continue rolling tightly until you reach the end of the wrapper. Then dip your finger with water to seal the top corner.
Fry Turon
In over medium skillet, heat oil and fry Turon for about 3-5 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through. Drain excess oil on paper towel.
Caramelized ½ sugar over medium heat. Roll turon over caramelized sugar. Top with a scoop of ice cream for an extra treat. Serve and enjoy!
- Banana: this recipe uses Saba Banana, they are shorter and firm. This type of banana is typically used for this recipe. You can also use plantain.
- Jackfruit: highly recommended to use ripe jackfruit. You can buy them fresh, frozen or canned in syrup. If using fresh langka, peel the jackfruit and cut it into thin strips. If using canned langka, drain the syrup and pat the strips dry with paper towels.
- Wrapper: lumpia wrapper or spring roll wrappers works good. Do not use egg roll wrappers as they are thicker and less crispy when fried.
- Sugar: brown sugar or white granulated sugar works great. Please make sure not to burn them.
- Oil: any neutral oil like canola or vegetable for frying.
