    What is Turon with Langka?

Turon is a popular street food in the Philippines. It's made with ripe bananas and Langka (Jackfruit). The ingredients are wrapped in spring roll wrappers and deep-fried until crispy and golden brown. Then coated with caramelized sugar.

    Notes and Substitions

    • Banana: this recipe uses Saba Banana, they are shorter and firm. This type of banana is typically used for this recipe. You can also use plantain.
    • Jackfruit: highly recommended to use ripe jackfruit. You can buy them fresh, frozen or canned in syrup. If using fresh langka, peel the jackfruit and cut it into thin strips. If using canned langka, drain the syrup and pat the strips dry with paper towels.
    • Wrapper: lumpia wrapper or spring roll wrappers work good. Do not use egg roll wrappers as they are thicker and less crispy when fried.
    • Sugar: brown sugar or white granulated sugar works great. Please make sure not to burn them.
    • Oil: any neutral oil like canola or vegetable for frying.

    Recipe FAQ'S

Do I need ripe bananas to make turon?

Yes! Ripe bananas are sweeter and softer texture, which enhances the over all texture.

    Can I freeze banana turon?

Yes, you can freeze uncooked banana turon. After assembling, transfer them in an airtight container or freezer bag. When you're ready to eat, fry them directly from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the cooking time.
