What is lumpia?
"Lumpia" is a Filipino term that refers to a type of spring roll that is commonly found in Filipino cuisine. It is a popular snack or appetizer that is often served at family gatherings, parties, and as street food.
Lumpia typically consists of a thin, crispy wrapper filled with a mixture of vegetables, meat, and sometimes seafood, and then fried until golden brown.
How to make it
Step 1. In a bowl, mix ground pork, grated carrots, onion, garlic, and cilantro. Add in oyster sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Mix until evenly distributed.
Step 2. Place a heaping tablespoon of meat (or more if needed) into wrapper, roll it up tightly, brush with water to seal and cut them into two equal parts.
Step 3. Carefully add the pork lumpia rolls to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 4. Drain excess oil and serve!

Pork lumpia goes well with a variety of dipping sauces, such as sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce, or soy sauce.

Filipino Pork Lumpia Recipe
Ingredients
- 450 grams ground pork
- ½ cup carrots grated
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon cilantro finely chopped
- 1½ tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1½ teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 15-20 pcs spring roll wrappers (Chinese Spring Rolls Wrapper)
- oil vegetable or canola for frying
Instructions
- Combine ground pork, carrots, onion, garlic and cilantro in a bowl.
- Add oyster sauce, sugar, salt and black pepper. Mix until seasonings are evenly distributed.
- Place wrapper on a flat surface, add a heaping tablespoon (more if needed) of meat filling on the wrapper.
- Grasp the bottom edge of the wrapper and roll it up and over the filling, continuing to roll until 2 inches of wrapper remain.
- Brush with water to seal the wrapper.
- Cut lumpia with scissor into two equal parts. Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling until you have used up all the filling.
- To deep fry lumpia, fill the pot with ½-inch of canola oil. Heat oil in medium heat. Carefully add the pork lumpia rolls to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes flipping halfway or until golden brown.Â
- Remove the lumpia rolls using slotted spoon or thong from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
- Transfer to a serving plate, serve with sweet chili sauce and enjoy.
