Beef Afritada or Afritadang Baka is one of the tastiest Filipino stews, and it's easy to prepare! This braised dish can be made with only a few ingredients, so you can make this hearty dish for dinner tonight. This Beef version of the Afritada (There is also versions with Chicken or Pork, or even a Vegetarian option), gets it's unique tastes from Filipino staples like Banana Sauce, Soy Sauce, and process of cooking.
What is the origin of Afritada?
The name Afritada derives from the Spanish word "fritada" (fried), which refers to the process of pan frying your meat source before adding in the sauce and vegetables. Afritada is a Filipino staple, and is similar to some other favourites like menudo and kaldereta, as both these use tomato sauce and or banana sauce. However, menudo includes sliced liver, while kaldereta exclusively uses goat meat.
Enjoy! Don't forget to serve it with rice.
