Meatless Burger Steak

Growing up in the Philippines this was one of my favourite To-Go meal at Jollibee (Filipino Fast Food Chain). Burger Steak is usually made of beef burger patties with mushroom gravy sauce. But I decided to improvise this hearty dish in my own way, so I replaced the beef with tofu and it was delicious. It is a very filling entree and can be served with rice or even mashed potatoes.

THINGS YOU NEED FOR MEATLESS BURGER STEAK VERSION

This dish does not need meat, just mix the tofu and all the spices including garlic, onion, scallions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Yes, as easy as that! Check out tofu sisig if you want more tofu recipes.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

  1. We will begin by combining all the ingredients for our Patties. Place pressed tofu on the large bowl. Add finely chopped onions, minced garlic, scallions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything using hands until well distributed. Add all-purpose flour, breadcrumbs and cornstarch. Mix together. Once done, get a generous handful of tofu mixture, shape into a ball and flatten into a patty.

2. Heat a medium or large pan over medium setting. Once hot, melt 3 tablespoon of butter and spread on the pan. Place patties on the pan, cook 3-4 minutes each side or until nice and golden brown. Once cooked, set it aside.
