What is Tonkatsu?
Tonkatsu is a classic Japanese dish that is made from pork cutlet, which are coated in Panko and fried to perfection. They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Served with delicious Tonkatsu sauce and a side of cabbage, the taste is amazing.
Ingredients Needed for Tonkatsu Pork Chops
Ingredient Notes
- pork: use boneless pork loin or pork chops not more than ½ inch thick.
- panko: panko japanese style breadcrumbs.
- flour: this recipe uses all purpose flour. You can also use almond flour.
- tonkatsu sauce: ketchup, oyster sauce, worcestershire sauce, and sesame seeds.
- sweetener: we are using honey. You can substitute it with white sugar or brown sugar. This is added to our sauce for some sweetness.
- cabbage: we are using Napa cabbage.
- salt and pepper.
Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1. In a small bowl, combine ketchup, oyster sauce, worcestershire sauce, toasted sesame seeds, and honey. Set aside.
Step 2. Prepare the pork chop by cutting through the fat to prevent it from curling. Using the back of the knife, flatten the meat to help tenderize it. Season with salt and pepper both sides.
Step 3. Add all-purpose flour into a plate . In a second bowl, beat your eggs and milk. In a third bowl, add and spread out panko.
Generously coat the pork chop with flour, dip into egg mixture then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
Step 4. In a pan, add in oil; once the oil is hot, add in the pork chop. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until crispy and golden brown. Remove and let it rest on a paper towel.
Step 5. Serve with shredded cabbage, rice and tonkatsu sauce. Share and Enjoy

- 1 cup canola oil for frying
- 2 pieces boneless pork
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- cabbage shredded
Tonkatsu Sauce
- 3 tablespoon ketchup

For Breading

- ¼ cup all purpose flour
