    A new invention

I am not saying I am the first food blogger to come up with Longganisa pizza, but I certainly am one of the few! While brainstorming ideas for fresh new recipes with my boyfriend, he suggested Longganisa Pizza because one; he loves Longganisa, and two; he loves Pizza! And Voila, Longganisa Pizza!

    What is Longganisa?

Longganisa or Longanisa is a filipino style sausage. It's made from ground pork and has an amazing sweet taste. Longganisa are cooked over low heat turning them soft, juicy and flavourful. Typically served with rice, often for breakfast in the Philippines.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • better than takeout.
    • easy to make for beginners with simple instructions.
    • brand new longganisa recipe to try at home.
    • cheesy, sweet and spicy!
    • sure to be a pleasant surprise for any guests.

    Ingredients Needed

    Ingredient Notes

    • flour: I am using all purpose flour.
    • yeast: I used active dry yeast.
    • oil: olive oil or vegetable oil works fine.
    • sauce: I used pizza sauce and added some banana sauce for extra sweet.
    • longganisa: i found them from superstore however you can also buy them at Asian or Filipino store.
    • toppings: onion, bell pepper, and mozzarella cheese. Feel free to add more topping like jalapeño or olives.

    Step-by-step Instructions

Step 1: Activate Yeast: Place the warm water in the large bowl of a heavy duty stand mixer. Add in yeast over the warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.

Step 2: Make the Dough: Add the flour, salt, sugar, and olive oil. Mix using the electric mixer. If you don't have a mixer, you can mix the ingredients together and knead them by hand. The dough should be a little sticky, or tacky to the touch. Add a little bit of flour if needed. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft free environment until doubled in size, 2-3 hours.

Step 3: Pizza Sauce and Toppings: Combine canned pizza sauce and banana ketchup. Thinly sliced bell peppers and onion and cut longganisa into bite-sized. Set it aside.

Step 4: Assemble Pizza: Grease a 10x15 inch dark non-stick pan with a little bit of olive oil or add parchment paper. Preheat your oven to 400 F. Take the dough, and using its own weight, allow it to form a rough rectangle as you lift it. Add olive oil and rub it over the dough. Add in pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, bell peppers, onion and longganisa.

Step 5: Bake: Bake in a pre-heated 400 F oven for 10-15 minutes or until the edges of the crust is golden and the cheese has melted. Serve and sprinkle with chili flakes and cilantro.

    • 1 cup mozzarela cheese
    • chili flakes optional
    • 1 teaspoon olive oil for rubbing

    Instructions

    • Place the warm water in the large bowl of a heavy duty stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
    • Add the flour, salt, sugar, and olive oil, and using the mixer. If you don't have a mixer, you can mix the ingredients together and knead them by hand. The dough should be a little sticky, or tacky to the touch. If it's too wet, sprinkle in a little more flour.
    • Transfer the dough into a lightly greased bowl. Turn to coat and cover for about 2-3 hours, or until it double the size. For a quick rise, place the dough in a warm place (75°F to 85°F) for 1 ½ hours.

    • After the dough has risen, grease a 10x15 inch dark non-stick pan with a little bit of olive oil. Preheat your oven to 450 F. Take the dough, and using its own weight, allow it to form a rough rectangle as you lift it. Lower it on the baking pan and pat and press it to occupy the space of the pan.
    • Add olive oil and rub it over the dough. Add in pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, bell peppers, onion and longganisa.
    • Bake in a pre-heated 400 F oven for 10-15 minutes or until the edges of the crust is golden and the cheese has melted. Serve and sprinkle with chili flakes and cilantro.
