    What is Steamed Leche Flan?

    Leche Flan, also known as Crème caramel is a custard dessert with a sweet layer of caramel sauce on top. It is a great dessert recipe, frequently served at parties, fiestas, and other special occasions. It's relative simplicity make it a good choice to pre-prepare, so try serving this at your next special event.

    It is very popular in the Philippines, and it is believed to have originated during the Spanish Colonial period in the 16th century. It has been around for a long time and many recipe variations and tastes exist. A late night tea or coffee goes perfectly with a bite of Leche flan as well.

    Ingredients Needed for Steamed Leche Flan

    • eggs: this recipes uses egg yolks.
    • milk: evaporated milk.
    • sweetener: condensed milk.
    • sugar: brown or white sugar for caramel.

    Step-by-step Instructions

    Step 1. In a saucepan add sugar and dissolve in a low heat until brown. Transfer to small bowls and let it cool.

    Step 2. In a large bowl, combine egg yolks, condensed milk and evaporated milk. Whisk until smooth. Strain egg mixture and pour into individual bowls.

    Step 3. Fill steamer with 4-5 cups of water. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

    Step 4. Remove from the steamer, allow to cool and refrigerate to chill and completely chill. Transfer to a serving plate and enjoy!

    Ingredients
      

    • 12 pieces egg yolks
    • 1 can condensed milk
    • 1 can evaporated milk
    • ¾ cup white sugar for caramel

    Instructions
     

    • In a saucepan add sugar and dissolve in a low heat. Let it simmer until it turns to golden syrup.
    • Immediately pour syrup onto individual baking dish. Let it cool.
    •  In a medium bowl whisk egg yolks, milk and condensed milk. Mix well until smooth.
    • Strain egg mixture and pour into individual bowls. 
    • Fill steamer with 4-5 cups of water. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. 
    • Remove from the steamer, allow to cool and refrigerate to chill.
    • Transfer to a serving plate and enjoy!
