This Soy Glazed Chicken Thighs recipe will almost definitely have you going back for second helpings. Maybe even third helpings. For this glazed chicken I combined sriracha, brown sugar, and soy sauce.
Let's get into the details of this recipe. In under 20 minutes you can have this sweet, spicy, and protein packed meal ready to go. Sometimes I surprise even myself with how good a dish turns out.
This soy glazed chicken is a perfect pair with rice or even fried rice. If you are busy Parents and want something quick for dinner this is the easiest chicken recipe to make. You can also just omit the sriracha if you don't like it spicy.
I was craving glazed chicken like this. We were at a Vietnamese restaurant recently and this is similar to what they served on top of my Vermicelli Noodle entree. Sliced into even strips makes this chicken perfect for adding on top of any noodle dish as well.
Ingredients Needed
- Chicken: for this recipe I am using boneless skinless chicken thighs. You can also use chicken thighs with skin on.
- Cornstarch: about 5 tablespoon of cornstarch. This helps to lock the juices and gives crispier texture.
- 5 spice powder: you will find them at Asian grocery store.
- Paprika: you can skip this if no paprika available. Totally optional
- Sugar: brown or white sugar works fine. You can also use honey for this recipe.
- Soy sauce: light soy sauce or regular works great.
- Sriracha: about 1 tablespoon for a little spice. You can add a bit more if you like it more spicy.
How to make it
First, pat dry chicken with paper towel. Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste both sides.
Mix cornstarch, 5 spice powder and paprika in a plate until well combined.
Coat chicken thighs with cornstarch mixture.
Pan fry chicken thighs until golden brown. Set it aside.
In the same pan, sautè garlic for 1 minute. Pour in soy sauce and add back chicken simmer for 1 minute on high heat.
Serve with rice, sprinkle some sesame seeds and enjoy!
Cooking tips
- make sure to pat dry chicken thighs with paper towel first. This absorbs the excess liquid from the chicken.
- coat chicken thighs with cornstarch mixture. Please don't skip this step. It helps to crisp up chicken.
- pan fry chicken over heat oil and not to put the lid on.

Soy Glazed Chicken Thighs
Ingredients
- 3 pieces boneless chicken thighs skinless
- salt and pepper to taste
- 5 tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon 5 spice powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1½ tablespoon oil pan frying chicken
Soy Glazed
- 3 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1½ tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 2 cloves garlic minced
Instructions
- Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper both sides.
- In a bowl, mix cornstarch, paprika and 5 spice powder until well combined.
- Coat chicken thighs with cornstarch mixture both sides until coated.
- Remove chicken thighs and set it aside.
- Mix soy sauce, brown sugar and sriracha in a bowl.
- In over medium heat pan, add oil. Once oil is hot, add chicken thighs. Pan fry for 5-7 minutes flip and cook for another 5 minutes until brown.
- Remove chicken from the pan. In the same pan, add minced garlic and stir for 1 minute until lightly brown.
- Pour in soy glazed sauce and simmer for 1 minute.
- Add back chicken and cook on high heat while drizzling the sauce all over the chicken for 1 minute. Serve with rice and enjoy!
