    What is Sinangag?

    Sinangag, also known as Filipino fried rice, is a popular dish in Filipino cuisine that is made by stir frying left over rice and Garlic. It is commonly eaten as a breakfast or brunch staple in the Philippines, and is often served with eggs, meat, and vegetables.

    Ingredients

    • Rice: using leftover or day-old rice is a great option for making fried rice. We are using Jasmine rice.
    • Oil: it's important to choose an oil that has a high smoke point. Vegetable, canola or grapeseed oil works great.
    • Garlic: lots of garlic a key ingredient for making sinangag.
    • Salt and Pepper: to taste.

    Instructions

    Step 1. Prep ingredients. Chopped or minced garlic using food processor or by hand.

    Step 2. SautĆØ garlic. In a wok, heat about 3 tablespoon oil. SautĆØ garlic in low heat until lightly brown. Set it aside.

    Step 3. Add in cooked rice. Add the cooked rice to the pan and spread using spatula. Stir for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

    Step 4. Add seasonings. Return the fried garlic to the pan (save some for garnish, if desired). Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Step 5. Garnish. Transfer to a serving plate and topped with crispy garlic. Serve and enjoy.

    What can you pair with Sinangag

    • this is a perfect pair for longanisa and tocino. The sweetness complements the garlic flavour of rice.
    • this pairs well with fried or grilled meats such as chicken, pork, or beef.
    • you can also serve this with our adobo dishes coconut milk chicken adobo , tofu adobo, eggplant adobo, and chicken adobo.
    • Adding a fried egg on top of sinangag creates a popular Filipino dish called "silog," which stands for sinangag (fried rice) + itlog (egg).
    • for a vegetarian or lighter option, you can pair sinangag with a vegetable stir-fry.

    Cooking Tips

    • using a day old rice as they are dryer and resulting a better texture of fried rice.
    • the key ingredient for Sinangag is using lots of garlic. Use plenty of minced or chopped garlic to infuse the rice with its delicious aromatic flavor.
    • to make garlic oil, make sure to cook garlic in low heat to release its flavor and aroma.
    • stir fry rice in medium high heat to prevent mushy and achieve a slightly crispy texture.

    Storing Tips

    • allow Sinangag to cool down at completely before storing. This prevents excess moisture which can make the rice soggy in the refrigerator.
    • store in airtight container or resealable plastic bag to keep it fresh.
    • can be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 1-2 days.

    Ingredients
      

    • 3 cups cooked rice
    • 3 tablespoon oil canola, vegetable of grape-seed
    • 8 cloves garlic minced or chopped
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions
     

    • Heat a large pan or wok over medium heat and add the cooking oil.
    • Add minced garlic and sautĆØ for about 2-3 minutes in a low heat until lightly golden brown. Remove the garlic with slotted spoon leaving the garlic-infused oil behind. Drain fried garlic with paper towel.
    • In the same wok, return the heat to medium high heat add cooked rice and spread in the surface to evenly distributed. Stir for 3-5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Continue to cook until heated through.
    • Return the fried garlic to the pan (save some for garnish, if desired). Season with salt and pepper to taste.Ā 
    • Transfer to a serving plate and topped with crispy garlic. Serve and enjoy.
