What is Sinangag?
Sinangag, also known as Filipino fried rice, is a popular dish in Filipino cuisine that is made by stir frying left over rice and Garlic. It is commonly eaten as a breakfast or brunch staple in the Philippines, and is often served with eggs, meat, and vegetables.
Ingredients
- Rice: using leftover or day-old rice is a great option for making fried rice. We are using Jasmine rice.
- Oil: it's important to choose an oil that has a high smoke point. Vegetable, canola or grapeseed oil works great.
- Garlic: lots of garlic a key ingredient for making sinangag.
- Salt and Pepper: to taste.
Instructions
Step 1. Prep ingredients. Chopped or minced garlic using food processor or by hand.
Step 2. SautĆØ garlic. In a wok, heat about 3 tablespoon oil. SautĆØ garlic in low heat until lightly brown. Set it aside.
Step 3. Add in cooked rice. Add the cooked rice to the pan and spread using spatula. Stir for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Step 4. Add seasonings. Return the fried garlic to the pan (save some for garnish, if desired). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5. Garnish. Transfer to a serving plate and topped with crispy garlic. Serve and enjoy.

Sinangag (Filipino Garlic Fried Rice)
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 3 tablespoon oil canola, vegetable of grape-seed
- 8 cloves garlic minced or chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large pan or wok over medium heat and add the cooking oil.
- Add minced garlic and sautĆØ for about 2-3 minutes in a low heat until lightly golden brown. Remove the garlic with slotted spoon leaving the garlic-infused oil behind. Drain fried garlic with paper towel.
- In the same wok, return the heat to medium high heat add cooked rice and spread in the surface to evenly distributed. Stir for 3-5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Continue to cook until heated through.
- Return the fried garlic to the pan (save some for garnish, if desired). Season with salt and pepper to taste.Ā
- Transfer to a serving plate and topped with crispy garlic. Serve and enjoy.
