From the crispy tofu, to the melt in your mouth sautéed green beans with garlic, this dish is a family favorite. With onions and a wonderful sauce comprised of soy sauce and oyster sauce, this dish will be a crowd pleaser for sure. It has an extra kick with chili flakes too, for the spice lovers.
Tips in making this recipe
- Cut green beans into equal sizes, trim and remove the tip of the end stem.
- Cut extra firm tofu into cubes and season them with salt and pepper before pan frying.
- Want a bit of heat? Add chili pepper flakes to taste!
- Do not overcook green beans.
Ingredients Needed
- green beans: this recipe uses french green beans about 1 pack (400 grams). Make sure to trim the end stem part. You can also use Chinese long green beans and cut on equal preferred sizes.
- tofu: extra firm tofu cut into cubes.
- onion: white or red onion works fine.
- garlic: about 3 minced garlic.
- oyster sauce: about 3 tablespoon of oyster sauce (panda brand). For umami flavour!
- soy sauce: light or regular soy sauce.
- chili flakes: if you like spicy you can add dried chili flakes. Totally optional.
How to make it (with Photos)
Step 1. Pan Fry Tofu
Heat 2-3 tablespoon of oil over medium heat then add tofu and pan fry for 2-3 minutes each sides until golden brown. Set it aside.
Step 2. Cook Aromatics
In the same pan sautè onion and garlic until fragrant. Add in trimmed green beans and stir for 2-3 minutes.
Step 3. Add Sauce and Spices
Add in oyster sauce, soy sauce and water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in chili flakes. Simmer for 6-8 minutes until green beans are tender-crisp. Add In tofu back into the pan and mix for another 2 minutes.
Step 4. Servings
Serve Tofu Green Beans over rice and enjoy!

Tofu Green Bean Stir Fry with Oyster Sauce
Ingredients
- 400 grams green beans ends trimmed and cut into 3-inch lengths
- ½ block (454 grams) extra firm tofu
- 2½ tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- 1 small onion chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- ¼ teaspoon chili flakes
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cut tofu into cubes and season tofu with salt and pepper. Trim and remove the end stem of green beans.
- In a skillet over medium heat, heat oil.
- Add tofu and pan fry for 2-3 minutes each side until golden brown. Set it aside.
- In the same skillet, sautè onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add in green beans and stir for 3 minutes.
- Stir in oyster sauce, soy sauce and water. Simmer, cook and stir occasionally for 6-8 minutes until green beans are tender-crisp.
- Add tofu back into the skillet and mix.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add in chili flakes, mix until evenly distributed.
- Transfer to a serving plate and serve over rice. Serve hot.
