    What is Melon Juice/Cantaloupe Juice?

    Melon Juice is a popular drink in the Philippines that is made from fresh melons such watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew. It is a refreshing drink that is perfect to enjoy on the summer days. Just the sight of the cold glass makes your crave a sip.

    The process of making the Juice is also very easy. The melon is typically cut halves, the seeds and rind are removed, and the flesh is blended to extract the juice.

    The juice then strained to remove pulp and seeds. The shredded flesh is then mixed with ice, water and sweetener like sugar or honey.

    Ingredients Needed

    • Melon: this recipes uses Cantaloupe. You can also use other variations like watermelon or honeydew.
    • Water: we only need water for the juice.
    • White sugar: for some sweetness. You can also add honey instead of sugar.

    How to make it

    Cut them in halves and scoop out the seeds.

    Transfer seeds to a bowl, add little bit of water. Strain and set aside.

    Scrape melon using fork and spoon method.

    Add shredded cantaloupe, extracted juice from seeds, water and sugar in pitcher. Mix until sugar dissolves.

    How to shred Cantaloupe?

    There are two ways on how to shred Cantaloupe.

    1. Fork and Spoon method. Scrape the flesh of the cantaloupe with the fork, and scoop the flesh with spoon.
    2. Using a grater. You can also use a fruit/coconut grater.

    Quick Tip

    Adding ice not only helps to cool it down but also dilutes the juice resulting in a milder flavor. You can add a little bit sugar.

    Recipe FAQ'S

    Can I add milk?

    It's a personal preference but keep in mind that adding milk will significantly alter the taste and texture of the juice. You can also add milk before just before serving.

    Can I use any type of melon?

    Yes, absolutely! While cantaloupe is commonly used for melon juice, you can also use other types of melons like watermelon and honeydew. The sweetness may vary, you can adjust accordingly.

    Do I need to remove the seeds?

    Yes, it's recommended to remove the seeds and inner membranes of the melon before making juice. Scoop the seeds with spoon but don't discard them yet they have lots of flavours. Transfer to a bowl, add water and strain the seeds. Add the extracted juice to the pitcher later.

    Store

    You can store them in the refrigerator to keep it chilled. Transfer the juice into a clean, airtight container or bottle with a secure lid.

    Consumed Cantaloupe Juice within 2-3 days for optimal taste and freshness.

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 medium cantaloupe
    • 4-5 cups water
    • 1 cup sugar according to desired sweetness

    Instructions
     

    • Thoroughly wash the outer skin of the melon under running water to remove any dirt.
    • Use a clean knife to cut the melon in half. Scoop out the seeds and inner pulp.
    • In a bowl, place seeds and pulp with one cup of the water. Press spoon down on the pulp to extract as much juice as possible. Using a colander, strain juice and discard seed.
    • Hold one half of the cantaloupe with the cut side facing up and use a fork to scrape the flesh in a downward motion. Start from one end of the cantaloupe and move towards the other end. Scoop the scraped flesh using spoon and set aside.
    • In a pitcher, add the extracted juice, shredded melon, water and sugar. Stir until well combined and sugar dissolved. Adjust sugar accordingly .
    • Chill the melon juice in the refrigerator or serve it immediately over ice.
